Breast lift surgery is a procedure designed to restore the perkier and firmer look of breasts that have sagged due to age, weight loss, or breastfeeding. As breast tissue is not connected to the chest wall by any bone, sagging breasts can be caused by gravity over time, and this can become even more noticeable in older and overweight individuals. Breast lift surgery is a slightly more difficult procedure than other breast surgeries, lasting between 2 to 4 hours under general anesthesia. It involves the placement of silicone implants into the breasts of patients with a slight sagging problem or a procedure similar to breast reduction surgery on patients with more severe sagging. Candidates for this procedure are generally those who have gone through all necessary medical check-ups and tests with no problems. However, patients with chronic health problems such as diabetes and high cholesterol are not recommended to undergo this surgery due to the increased risk of operative and post-operative complications.

Breast lift surgery is essential as sagging breasts are a problem that cannot be addressed by anything other than surgery. Creams, massages, and devices targeting sagging breasts are ineffective, and this problem can lead to a negative impact on women’s psychological health, such as depression. Therefore, breast lift surgery can not only improve women’s physical appearance but also their psychological health.

Before the surgery, the patient is examined in detail by the treating surgeon. If the patient’s breast tissue is found to be sufficient, a breast lift procedure using only the patient’s own tissues will be planned. On the other hand, if their own tissue is deemed insufficient, a fuller and perkier breast appearance can be achieved with the help of a silicone implant. It is important for patients to communicate their expectations, ask any questions they may have, and make the right decision before proceeding with the surgery.

During the procedure, the breasts are marked, photographs are taken, and after a final consultation, the patient is taken to surgery. After the procedure, patients are discharged on the same day or after an overnight stay in the hospital, and they are asked to make a follow-up appointment after one week.

Complications may occur during and after the surgery, such as hematoma, bleeding, wound dehiscence, and infection of sutures. However, these complications are more likely to occur in patients with chronic health problems. Therefore, breast lift and implant surgery is not recommended for patients with chronic health problems such as diabetes and high cholesterol. The doctor explains the risks of the surgery, and the patient must sign a document stating that they have read and understood this information thoroughly before proceeding with the surgery.
